Meet the Beast
Meet the latest addition to our family: the Beast aka a state-of-the-art roasting machine Giesen. She can now be seen in full swing in our cafe. Our head roasters are so excited to now finally being able to experiment and improvise to develop unique blends and amazing tastes for our house blend, single-origin espressos, and pour-over coffees.
Bali has always been a magical place for us. That feeling grew even bigger after meeting Nyoman, the owner of the Bali Beans coffee plantation in the hills of Kintamani. He and his family produce organic coffee by combining their old knowledge about the rich soils of the hills and modern techniques their youngest daughter discovered overseas. We are so excited to now being able to buy their beans directly from the farm and help the family to spread their reach a little further.
Bali Beans coffee is grown by local Balinese farmers who practice the ‘Subak Abian’ method of farming, which means they work together in a local co-operative, to support one another, to share knowledge and resources. Subaks live by the Balinese philosophy of ‘Tri Hita Karana’ (the three sources of prosperity), which states the relationship between three elements can bring peace and happiness. Those three elements are Man, Nature and God.
Meet Daniel, head of the Coffee & Coconuts roasting team. He drinks coffee, he breathes coffee, he dreams coffee. We found him wandering the coffee plantations in Bali and we knew from the start: we need to take him home to Amsterdam. Lucky us he was ready to share his view on coffee and roasting with us. Our coffee offerings change throughout the year, depending on season and flavor. We roast in small batches to ensure the best quality of each lot.
